Fortnite‘s v19.30 update brought with it a bunch of updates, including new skins and an Uncharted item, but probably the biggest new thing added was gyro aiming and flick stick for those on PC, PlayStation and Switch, but what about Xbox?
Well, players on Xbox One and Xbox Series X & S will not be able to use gyro controls in Fortnite. This is down to the Xbox controller not having the gyro tech, so there’s nothing that Epic can really do about it. Not even flick stick, which allows you to quickly move to the left and right with a flick of the right stick, would really work without that tech.
So, what is gyro? Well, at its essence, gyro allows you to move your controller to aim. If you move your controller up, your crosshair will also move up. It takes some getting used to, but is often viewed as a promising new tech in gaming that hasn’t quite yet taken off in multiplayer games. While Switch has previously had motion controls, this gyro aiming update allows even more precision and control.
As to whether Xbox will ever get gyro aiming in Fortnite, it ultimately comes down to Microsoft to release a new controller. They have reportedly expressed interest in doing something like the DualSense, so it’s possible, though admittedly unlikely any time soon.
Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
