Introduced during Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 3, Firefly Jars are one of the most interesting new items added to the game that may end up changing things up quite drastically.

Having previously being leaked during the v13.00 update, it looks like Firefly Jars have been stealth added to Fortnite.

Acting like a grenade, Firefly Jars are strange in that you have to go and find fireflies to put in a jar that just materialises. Once thrown, they deal immediate damage and then start burning everything around them.

Here’s everything you need to know about Firefly Jars in Fortnite Season 3.

Firefly Jars appear in your inventory after catching the actual fireflies, and it seem like there are only one or two places to catch those fireflies. As mentioned, they more or less work like fire grenades or molotovs in that you chuck them at something, causing 40 damage on impact and then more damage the longer the fire burns.

They are of the Rare variety, so they should not be too difficult to bump into.

However, at this time of writing, it seems that fireflies are only available in one exact spot, meaning that it’s likely that Epic didn’t intend to add them to the game just yet. Head on down to the coast in H7 to find them near a campsite. You can snag them by going up to the fireflies and then pressing your interact button.

Don’t forget, though, that fireflies seem to spawn in many different places, almost at random.

How they will affect competitive Fortnite will be very interesting, seeing as how they can have quite a wide range and could be very annoying to counter. They burn through builds, which may mean that Epic ban them from competitive play.

We will update this with more info on Firefly Jars in Fortnite once we get it.

Fortnite: Chapter 2 – Season 3 is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
