Final Fantasy 16: How To Change Difficulty

Final Fantasy 16 instills a revolutionary new formula into the heart of the series. It’s the first ever Final Fantasy game to go the true action RPG route with adrenaline-pumping combat and while it brings a lot of things to the table, its gameplay is clearly the highlight.

Unlike the easy, medium, and hard difficulty levels we’re used to in single-player games, Final Fantasy 16 is taking an original approach. There’s no difficulty select option for the player, instead, you’re bestowed with four accessories at the start of the game which allow you to perform complex actions with either a simple press of a button or automatically, and in turn, bring down the difficulty of the game.

— Ring of Timely Strikes: Enables you to perform complex attack patterns by pressing Square.
— Ring of Timely Evasion: Has Clive automatically dodging attacks.
— Ring of Timely Focus: Massively increases the dodge window.
— Ring of Timely Healing: Automatically heals Clive by consuming the potions in your inventory.

Some of the above-listed items cannot be co-equipped, specifically, those which modify the same gameplay element. The Ring of Timely Strikes, and the Ring of Timely Evasion both are the most broken modifiers in the game since you just need to stand around while Clive takes care of the hard stuff himself. Naturally, these are of massive help to anyone struggling with Final Fantasy 16‘s difficulty.

The developers purposely included these accessories for players that want to simply enjoy Final Fantasy 16’s story and don’t have a penchant for learning combat schemes, which there are several of in the game. The combat system itself is very similar to Devil May Cry 5‘s as both of them are made by the same lead designer, so if you’re having PTSD from your devil-hunting days, the Rings of Timely Healing, Evasion, Strikes, and Focus are going to be your best friends.

Final Fantasy 16 is available now on PS5.
