Final Fantasy 14 is easy to sink a lot of hours into with its rich lore and exploration, but one thing that isn’t quite as straightforward is obtaining Gil. Gil is the main currency used in Final Fantasy 14, and having lots of it can certainly make your journey go a lot smoother.
Whether you want to be practical with your money and use it for gear repairs and teleportation, or save up for glamor gear, player housing, and other cosmetic items, here are some tips on how to easily farm Gil to help you get rich quick.
Learn Crafting and Gathering Professions
Crafting and gathering professions are two of the steadiest, albeit slightly time-consuming, ways to earn Gil in Final Fantasy 14. As you might have already guessed, crafting jobs (Disciples of the Hand) involve item crafting, while gathering jobs (Disciples of the Land) involve searching for and collecting materials.
There are a huge number of professions to choose from: 8 Disciples of the Hand and 3 Disciples of the Land. You’re not limited to a single profession either – your character can pick up all professions, though leveling them all up will take a considerable amount of time.
Collecting materials is a pretty good source of income as even basic ones sell on the Market Board (Final Fantasy 14’s Auction House). Many crafters will purchase materials instead of gathering them themselves to save time, so you can use this to your advantage.
Additionally, when gathering at points that are level 40 and over, there’s a chance you’ll receive an item called a Timeworn Map, which you can then decipher to reveal the location of hidden treasures. You can use the map yourself to grab some goodies, but these items can also fetch a decent price on the Market Board.
All of the crafting jobs in Final Fantasy 14 are useful, though the Alchemist, Culinarian, Goldsmith, and Armorer have the potential to earn you the most Gil as they craft some of the most valuable and sought-after items in the game.
Participate in Weekly Challenges and the Duty Roulette
The Challenge Log in Final Fantasy 14 is worth doing as it earns you a bunch of rewards, including Gil and experience. It contains a bunch of adventuring objectives across various categories that you can complete on a weekly basis.
To unlock the Challenge Log, all you need to do is finish the level 15 “Rising to the Challenge” quest, then complete either “Call of the Sea (Gridania), “Call of the Sea (Limsa Lominsa)”, or “Call of the Sea (Ul’dah)”.
The Duty Roulette, which is a feature that allows you to join randomized duties, is also a great way to snag some goodies. It gives you a daily reward of experience, Gil, Grand Company Seals, and some other extras depending on your job, level, and the type of duty.
If you want to earn a bit more Gil from the Duty Roulette, take a look at the “Adventurer in Need” icon and queue for whatever role is in high demand. It’s usually either tank or healer as these roles are much less popular than DPS.
If you’re a high enough level, you can run Duty Roulette: Expert which will grant you some Tomestones. You can trade these for unique gear and items, or sell on the Market Board for some extra Gil.
Any loot you acquire from duties that you don’t want can also be sold on the Market Board or desynthesized for crafting materials, which you can later use or sell.
Set Retainers Out on Ventures
Once you’ve completed the MSQ “Scions of the Seventh Dawn”, you’ll be able to access special NPCs called Retainers. These helpful companions can be used to store items/Gil and sell unwanted inventory items on the market, but they can also be sent out on Retainer Ventures to acquire items and materials.
Completing Retainer Ventures will grant you experience and, more importantly, Gil. However, you’ll need to get your hands on Venture tokens before starting a Retainer Venture.
You can buy this currency from your Grand Company Vendor or earn it by completing Beast Tribe Quests and Guildleves.
You can have up to two Retainers per character as part of your Final Fantasy 14 subscription, but you can obtain additional ones for an extra fee per month.
As your Retainers complete more Ventures, they will level up, granting you better rewards. While there are more profitable ways to earn Gil in Final Fantasy 14, Retainers provide you with a simple source of income that will gradually increase over time.
Complete Beast Tribe Quests
After reaching level 41 of the MSQ, you’ll unlock Beast Tribe Quests, which can be performed daily. You can do up to 12 quests a day, but with a reputation rank of 1, you’ll only be able to accept 3 quests from any individual tribe.
Beast Tribe Quests are worth setting some time for each day as they reward you with Gil, Tomestones, and Ventures, as well as increase your reputation so you’re able to purchase unique items and materials.
Special mounts, minions, dyes, furnishings, etc, that can only be bought from the Beast Tribe Vendor can be sold on the Market Board for a decent sum to players who lack the time to increase their reputation with beast tribe relations.
Complete Grand Company Hunts
Completing Grand Company Hunts will earn you a fair amount of Gil, as well as Company Seals which can be exchanged for valuable and unique items, including crafting materials, Ventures, weapons, and armor.
Grand Company Hunts are available upon ranking up to Second Lieutenant in your Grand Company. You can earn promotions by donating Company Seals, which can be gained through specific quests, FATEs, Duty Roulette, Grand Company Leves, and expert and provision missions.
Available Hunts and their respective rewards can be seen on your Grand Company’s Hunt Board.
Final Fantasy 14 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
