The Fall Guy just had its premiere at SXSW, and the early reviews are calling it the action rom-com of the summer. At the time of this article, it stands at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s been a good week for Gosling, who was the most memorable thing about the 2024 Oscars, after wowing everyone with his performance of “I’m Just Ken”. The Fall Guy also stars Emily Blunt, and the pair did a little skit at the Oscars about the whole Barbienheimer competition.

Critic Robert Daniels from Screen Intentional calls it “a thrilling spectacle of immense proportions”, and Matthew Jackson at AV Club is effusive about how it’s “a blast of fun at the movies worthy of the biggest tub of popcorn you can find.” Sounds like it’s a summer blockbuster we can look forward to.

Gosling plays Colt Seavers, a professional stuntman. Colt and Jody (Blunt) had a romance going on, but Colt left her high and dry. He’s the last person she expected to see on her movie set, yet she can’t deny the romantic chemistry that’s still there. Colt is then offered a chance to make it up to her. Her leading man Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) has gone missing, and Colt’s been tasked to bring him back to salvage Jody’s movie. So now the stuntman will have to handle things in the real world. Is he up to the task? I mean, it’s Ryan Gosling so of course he’ll succeed – it’s a no brainer.

The Fall Guy will cannon roll into cinemas May 3, 2024.
