E3 2018: All The News From EA Play, Including Anthem & Battlefield V

Anthem 1

EA Play is in the rearview mirror and it was largely okay. The cringe factor was dialled all the way down from last year with simple presentations and straightforward discussions, though the distinct lack of Skate 4 probably means that it was a disaster for many.

In case you missed out on all the reveals, here’s the news from EA Play to kick off E3 2018.

Battlefield V

Battlefield V 5

It’s getting a battle royale mode, people. There wasn’t much else said about it with details to follow at a later date, but the mixed reception from the crowd is surely going to make its way into a Crowbcat video. They also showed off some new gameplay quirks but not much else. Bit poor, really.

FIFA 19

No new gameplay details, except for the introduction of Champions League, which will probably help them to get away with it for another year. Launches September 28th.

Origin Premier

EA debuted a new subscription service at EA Play, which is their answer to Xbox Game Pass. Details are light on the ground, but it will be an upgrade on Origin Access and give players access to new EA game from day one for a subscription fee.

Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Respawn

Respawn studio boss Vince Zampella announced the name of their new Star Wars game, Jedi: Fallen Order, and that it will launch late next year. It takes place between Revenge and A New Hope.

Unravel Two

It’s out right now.

Sea of Solitude

Probably our favourite from EA Play, Sea of Solitude is about a girl who gets turned into a monster and must find a cure. Look for it next year.

NBA Live 19

Comes out September 7th on PS4, Xbox One and PC via Origin Access. That’s your lot, move along.

Pay-To-Win comment

Battlefront 2 vader

EA took a second to address their public image after the Battlefront II controversies, admitting that they had to learn and grow from it. They vowed to not have any pay-to-win mechanics in future games. Will be interesting to see what their next move is.

FIFA 18 trial

FIFA 18 Everton

There’s currently a free trial of FIFA 18 available for all platforms (minus the Switch) to coincide with the World Cup. Not a bad move, but it should really be in the EA Access vault by now.

Command and Conquer: Rivals

C&C goes mobile, and terrible memories of Dungeon Keeper go with it. People aren’t too happy about this judging by the like/dislike ratio on the official YouTube trailer, and you can’t really blame them.

Battlefront II Clone Wars DLC

Battlefront 2

The road to redemption continues for Battlefront II. DICE revealed that it would receive free DLC that will explore the Clone Wars as well as allowing you to play as Obi-Wan among others.

Anthem

Two new trailers, a dive into the world of the game, a look at the different classes and one big promise: there will be no loot boxes. Anthem will also drop on the same day as Days Gone, which is going to be an interesting battle in the charts.
