Dying Light 2: How To Defeat Revenants

The Revenant is a monster found in GRE Anomalies in Dying Light 2 and likely the earliest boss encounter players will have in the game. While not all that tough overall, the Revenant can still overwhelm players with its agility and ability to rise zombies from nowhere, creating simply too many enemies for you to feasibly take on.

The Revenant appears in the GRE Anomaly in a closed off ring. They can only be encountered at night; the player will be prompted to return at night if they arrive at the Anomaly in the day. Here’s GRE Anomaly C-A-01 as an example.

Most Revenant fights play out exactly the same, with higher level areas meaning that the Revenant just hits harder and summons more infected to deal with. It’s pretty much the same method for each one, however.

An important thing to remember when going against the Revenant is that you won’t be able to simply restart and any items that you have before you take them on will be lost if you die while having already used them. Be sure to stock up on medicines and projectiles before taking on this boss, and also don’t rush into it headfirst.

Jump into the arena when ready, though you may want to grab a spear from one of the roofs to get off a quick bit of damage right at the start of the fight. You can also use throwing knives to do a little damage against the Revenant or to use it to ignite the red gas canisters from afar.

As mentioned, the Revenant himself isn’t all that tough to beat, as he doesn’t hit all that hard at all. Really, the only issue with him is how many zombies he summons, but luckily there are red gas canisters all over that you can use to thin out the mini-hordes. Don’t forget that you can pick these up and ignite them manually, if you’re feeling wild, and also mines are super handy to have. Basically, any item you have that can thin out the infected is a winner.

When you’ve either wiped out his zombies or have some distance between you and them, simply start laying into the Revenant with your melee weapon until he flees, then give chase.

The Revenant’s attacks are very straightforward and easy to counter or outright avoid. His projectiles and swipes are easily dodged, while he also jumps and slams down on the ground, causing a wave that can again be very easily dodged.

Be sure to watch out for his “grenades”, which drop in a circle around him and are meant to force you to distance from him. These are the three main attacks that he does, and once you have that all figured out, it’s really little stress at all to defeat him.

The Revenant really becomes a non-issue once you have a bow or crossbow. Just keep shooting him from afar and you don’t even need to worry about any of his attacks.

Once defeated, don’t forget to loot the Revenant itself for valuables like morphine and a unique infected trophy, then go and grab the Inhibitors from the now open cubicle of sorts.

Dying Light 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
