Dying Light 2: Can You Use Guns?

Dying Light 2 is a melee-focused game with players getting their hands on all manner of tools of destruction, from piano legs to railings to even bows. But can you also use guns like you could in the original game?

Yes, there are guns in Dying Light 2, but there’s a lot of game to play before you can unlock one. It should take anywhere from 10 to 20 hours of gameplay before you unlock the first (and we think only) gun in the game, depending on how much of the side content you play.

After you activate the electric substation in Downtown as part of the A Place To Call Home quest, you can then purchase a blueprint from the craftmaster for the Boomstick “shotgun,” the first the traditional firearm that you will get your hands on in the game.

You need 100x Scraps to craft the Boomstick, which is a lot of scraps. Though scraps are extremely common, it’s also used in a variety of other blueprints, so it’s hard to really amass that much of it.

The Boomstick only comes with two shots and is more of an alamo weapon to get you out of a really tough spot than something you can really depend on. It does 160 damage and is best used up close. It’s also an accessory over a traditional weapon and works more like a throwing knife than a main weapon.

Instead, while not a gun, the best weapon to get for ranged combat in Dying Light 2 is the PK Crossbow.

The PK Crossbow is unlocked as a reward for giving facilities to the Peacekeepers and is given as part of the Crossbow Pack.

It has bolts that deal huge damage, and can even do elemental damage. With headshots killing most enemies in a single hit, creeping through GRE Quarantines has never been easier.

If you’re wondering why guns are so uncommon in Dying Light 2, bear in mind that the game takes places fifteen years after the end of the world known as The Fall. It also doesn’t mean that Dying Light 2 will never have a wide variety of guns, as the original game had tonnes of post-launch content added and Techland plans on doing the same for the sequel.

Dying Light 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S.
