The Dorohedoro manga series kicked off in 2000, and after 18 years of publication, Q. Hyashida called it quits when it came to continuing it any further. A short period later, Studio MAPPA picked the manga up for an adaptation that later aired in 2020. The first season received much acclaim for its science fantasy setting and outlandish animation, but with season one lasting only 12 episodes, when are we getting Dorohedoro: Season 2 on Netflix?

The manga spans 23 volumes that contain a whopping total of 167 chapters, so as far as the matter of source material is concerned, MAPPA doesn’t have any shortage of it to start the development of Dorohedoro: Season 2. But the studio does have other projects it’s leading, so there may be some delays until you get to witness the painstakingly detailed animation of Dorohedoro once again.

Whether they’ll get to see a sequel to the quirky first season has been troubling the minds of anime enthusiasts, so here’s a look at everything we know so far about Dorohedoro: Season 2.

When Is Dorohedoro: Season 2 Coming Out?

As it stands, there hasn’t been any word for the renewal of Dorohedoro: Season 2, but if we were to estimate a release date, it’ll likely be sometime in fall 2024. Currently, Studio MAPPA is working on the much anticipated Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2, and until that finishes airing in 2023, don’t expect to see the anime return anytime soon.

On another note, it could be possible for Dorohedoro: Season 2 to arrive early if MAPPA gives the job over to some other studio, and considering how busy the studio is with Chainsaw Man: Season 1, and Jujutsu Kaisen: Season 2, that’s a possible outcome.

The first season ended around chapter 40 of the manga, which means that there’s more than enough material for Dorohedoro: Season 2 to air with 24 episodes, though usually, that’s something that viewership numbers and demand decide.

What Is Dorohedoro: Season 2 About? (Spoiler Alert)

Dorohedoro: Season 1 ended with Caiman and Nikaido reconciling after their gut-wrenching fight. Nikaido reassured Caiman that they both would still be friends regardless of her being a magic-user and that her powers of time traveling once killed a friend of hers, so she decided not to use them ever again. That’s also revealed to be the main reason why Nikaido chose to live in Hole, as it seemed like a great place to lay low.

While it hasn’t been revealed what parts of the manga Dorohedoro: Season 2 will specifically cover, we speculate that it’ll include the upcoming Central Department Store Story Arc. The arc depicts the events that conspire after Nikaido’s devil side takes over. Apart from that, Caiman continues to search for the sorcerer responsible for his appearance, and according to the manga, that’s a moment that isn’t far away.

News about Dorohedoro: Season 2 is on the rough end of the spectrum, and nobody has forgotten the anime’s weirdly captivating journey, so sooner or later a sequel will indeed arrive.
