DOOM Eternal: How To Play DOOM II

We put DOOM in your DOOM and then we put DOOM in your DOOM in your DOOM.

Now available for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia (yes, Stadia), DOOM Eternal features a tonne of ripping and tearing across its long single-player campaign, which includes plenty of easter eggs to earlier DOOM games. Most people know by now that you can play the original DOOM within DOOM Eternal, but DOOM II is also available for you to play.

To unlock DOOM II in DOOM Eternal, head on over to the DOOM Slayer’s room in the Fortress of DOOM, which itself is like an easter egg factory. The room contains the hint for the 12-letter combination you need for the secret.

On all of the piles of comics on the floor, you will find they are all published by an outfit called Taggart Comics Group.

As well as that, there’s also a book called Retconned: The Life and Times of Flynn Taggart.

Flynn Taggart was the protagonist of the original DOOM novels and was basically its version of Doomguy, though that has since been torpedoed out of the canon. The novels have not exactly been warmly received by fans, mainly because they are nonsense.

It’s this name that you will need to input into the same terminal as the one you used to unlock the original DOOM to also unlock DOOM II. All as one word, simply scroll through all of the letters to write out FLYNNTAGGART, at which point DOOM II will automatically unlock for you.

Unfortunately for us, this always causes our game to crash to desktop, so we can’t experience the game within a game.

DOOM Eternal is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Also Stadia. From our DOOM Eternal review:

“DOOM Eternal is a bloody masterpiece of glorious violence that may well be the best the series has ever been.”
