Detective Pikachu Is Officially The Best Video Game Movie Adaptation

Most well-reviewed and highest earning opening weekend for a video game movie of all time.

Detective Pikachu

After a strong opening weekend at the box office, it’s been revealed that Detective Pikachu is officially the best video game movie adaptation ever made, as the movie has managed to become the most well-reviewed video game movie ever, and it managed to have the most successful opening weekend of any opening weekend to boot. Not bad for a film about a yellow rodent voiced by Ryan Reynolds.

According to Box Office Mojo, Detective Pikachu managed to secure $58 million at the US Box Office, which is $10 million more than the previous record holder Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Of course, it didn’t manage to beat Avengers: Endgame, which drew in $63 million during its third weekend, but it’s still an incredibly impressive opening weekend. Internationally, Detective Pikachu managed to draw in over $170 million, and with strong reviews from critics and the general public, the money will continue to come in.

Speaking of reviews, currently Detective Pikachu is sitting on a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 127 out of 202 reviews classed as positive, making it the first video game movie adaptation to actually earn a positive rating, which is mind-blowing.
