Timed exclusive DLC? Uh oh.

Remedy have revealed the post-launch plans for the recently released Control, including a host of free, significant updates, and two pieces of paid DLC that form the Season Pass. The paid expansions will arrive in 2020, but you can expect free updates until the end of the year.

The free updates include the much requested Photo Mode, so you can grab some high quality screenshots of the weird environments in Control, and the Expeditions mode. This new mode is designed to offer challenging end-game content to all players, as you and Security Chief Arish attempt to explore the mysterious Formation.

As for the paid DLC, early 2020 will see the launch of The Foundation, where Jesse tries to explore what’s underneath The Bureau, while mid 2020 is when the second DLC pack, AWE, launches. AWE will take players to a new location, The Investigations Sector, which looks at Altered World Events. If the similarities that journalist and Numbskull PR guy Ryan Brown has pointed out have any validity, we might even be seeing a return of Alan Wake.

Unfortunately, the paid DLC comes with a big asterisk. Players who have bought the game on PS4 can pre-order the Season Pass right now, with DLC 1 scheduled to launch first on PS4. As for the PC and Xbox One players, a press release states that “the Season Pass and individual Expansions will be available for purchase on Xbox One and PC, following the PlayStation 4 Expansion 1 ‘The Foundation’ release. The AWE expansion will release on all platforms on the same date.”

The Foundation DLC pack will be a timed exclusive for PS4 players, and there’s no indication yet on when the DLC will launch on other platforms. Roughly, there’s about half a year between the estimated release dates of The Foundation and AWE, so hopefully the other platforms won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on Control’s Season Pass.
