UPDATE: Remedy Clarify That Control Coming To Game Pass Is “Incorrect”

Okay, maybe not.

UPDATE: After news broke from today’s livestream, Remedy themselves have now issued a statement on Twitter to dismiss the idea of Control coming to Xbox Game Pass. Check out the tweet for yourself below.

This doesn’t mean Control won’t find its way onto Xbox Game Pass at some point, but for now, we need to assume that’s not the current plan. Still, the real question is how this happened in the first place. As mentioned in the original article, Phil might have given the game away ahead of time, or perhaps he simply had the wrong information altogether. Either way, this has been a bit of a rollercoaster.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: During an Extra Life charity livestream, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer remarked that Remedy’s third person shooter Control would be making its way to Xbox Game Pass, though he didn’t say when. The moment in question was spotted by Twitter user Wario 64.

During the moment in question, Spencer states that Control “didn’t reach enough people so I’m glad to see that it’s coming in to Game Pass so hopefully more people will play it”. While exact sales figures are hard to come by, it has been noted that Control might not have drawn in enough revenue for a game of its size and stature.

Phil didn’t give a date as to when we can expect Control to make its way to Xbox Game Pass, which to me suggests that he might have given the game away ahead of time. Maybe something about the casual stream setting caused him to reveal the information ahead of time. Control wasn’t featured as part of the recent wave of Xbox Game Pass announcements, so perhaps we’ll see it added either around Christmas, or in the New Year.
