The writing has been on the wall for the longest time, as well as on the side of bags of Doritos, but Activision have finally revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is real, and more will be revealed on August 26th. Well, Activision didn’t so much confirm as it was revealed to be the culmination of a huge ARG leading to a unlisted trailer, but either way, here’s the trailer.

The trailer revolves around a real-life interview with the Soviet defector Yuri Bezmenov recorded in 1984, who defected to the West after growing increasingly disillusioned with the KGB. The trailer also a Soviet spy codenamed Perseus, another real-life figure who’s identity remains a mystery, while using snippets of Yuri speaking about how the Russians planned to destabilise a country. Allegedly, Perseus was present during the Manhattan Project, but evidence of their existence is few and far between.
The trailer’s official description points to a big reveal in Verdansk, Warzone’s battle royale map, on August 26th. To be honest, it makes sense that a reveal for a game set during the Cold War would take place near a Gulag. While Black Ops Cold War appears to be focusing much more on real-life history than previous Black Ops games, this is the series that suggested your player character, Alex Mason, killed JFK. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were revealed to be Perseus by the time the credits roll.
