Anime, zombies, and some games that might not be that new.

One month down, 11 to go, though if January is anything to go by, the rest of 2020 is looking like it’ll be a real rollercoaster, so to speak. I don’t mean in terms of gaming, mind you. Considering everything that’s been going on in the world over the past month, I have to wonder if I’ll even be able to deliver the biggest games of March 2020 article in a month’s time.

But anyway, back to gaming. January might have been a quiet month for releases, with only Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and Journey to the Savage Planet to tide us over, but it looks like the releases are set to ramp up heading into February. Let’s take a look at all the biggest gaming releases of February 2020.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War – February 4th

Zombie Army 4

Those darned Nazis are at it again; congregating in massive hordes, stinking of rotten flesh, trying to eat everyone’s brains. That’s what they do, right? Or am I thinking of zombies? Either way, they’re both a bunch of bastards and you get to slaughter them all indiscriminately in Zombie Army 4: Dead War, which sounds like a rollicking good time to me.

Zombie Army 4 is a four player co-op shooter that sees a team of survivors attempt to put a stop to a resurging zombie Hitler, which is like the worst version of Hitler (the best being Taika Watiti). As a team, you’ll take on hordes of zombies, fight new special infected and utilise new weapons and abilities to gain victory.

Granblue Fantasy Versus – February 6th (Japan)

Granblue Fantasy Versus

Arc System Works have been on top of their game when it comes to fighting games, so it makes sense that we’d see them adapt another property into a good old scrapper, though you might not have heard of Granblue Fantasy. In fact, it’s a highly successful, free-to-play RPG that’s available on web browsers and mobile.

Granblue Fantasy Versus, as you might have guessed, is a fighting game that utilises characters, weapons and skills from the RPG in a 2.5D brawler. The game introduces Skybound Arts, which are powerful special moves that are activated via a single button press, but have a short cooldown between uses, allowing new players to get to grips with the game’s mechanics. Shame it’s only launching on February 6th in Japan, but the West should see it soon enough.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition – February 14th

Champion Edition

Street Fighter V and its update, Arcade Edition, has been available for a while now on PC and PS4, but Capcom have decided to update the formula once again by releasing Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, which collects almost all previously released DLC into one affordable package.

Champion Edition includes 40 characters, 30 stages and well over 200 costumes, all for under £25, or $30 if you live on the other side of the Atlantic. While it might not be a new release in the same vein of other games on this list, Champion Edition might just be the game to entice people to either play Street Fighter V for the first time, or bring veteran players back for another round.

Dreams – February 14th

Dreams PS4

If you dream about it, they will come. That’s pretty much the premise for Dreams, Media Molecule’s latest creation extravaganza. Like Little Big Planet, Dreams asks its players to create whatever they can come up with, though Dreams isn’t shackled by the constraints of a 2D platformer. Instead, players can create anything they feel like.

Dreams has been available in early access for a few months now, with players creating anything from legally dubious recreations of famous games to a really appetising full English breakfast. The world is truly your oyster when it comes to Dreams, but if you’d prefer that world to be a text adventure involving a magic unicorn, you can do that too.

Darksiders: Genesis – February 14th

Genesis

Okay, so February might have a few game releases that have already been available elsewhere, and Darksiders: Genesis is another such game. Genesis, the top-down action-RPG spin-off of the Darksiders series, has been available on PC since last year, but soon it’ll be available on consoles too.

In Genesis, you control Strife, the fourth and final Horseman to be playable in the Darksiders series, as well as War, as they venture into the bowels of Hell to take down the various beasts that threaten the world. While you can switch between both characters on the fly, you can also play the game in co-op to take on all comers with a friend.

Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle – February 18th

Bayonetta

Look, February has a lot of old-new releases, if that makes sense, but this one right here is totally worth mentioning. Two of Platinum’s best ever games, Bayonetta and Vanquish, will be getting 10th Anniversary remasters on PS4 and Xbox One, allowing players to relive or experience for the first time some incredible character action.

Both games will be available in 4K, with 60fps on the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, meaning they’ll look and feel better than they ever have. While Bayonetta has been more widely available in recent times, with recent Wii U and Switch ports, the opportunity to revisit Vanquish is a tantalising one, largely because that game didn’t quite receive the amount of love it should have on release.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition (Switch) – February 20th

Devil May Cry 3

Another already released game launching in February, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is the conclusion of the HD Remastered Trilogy that’s slowly been making its way to the Nintendo Switch over the past few months. While the more recent DMC 5 might be the pinnacle of the series for some, others would argue that Devil May Cry 3 is the best the series has ever been.

A prequel to the overall series, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition chronicles the rivalry between Dante and his brother Virgil, becoming one of the most iconic aspects of the series’ lore as a whole. Special Edition even allowed players to spend some time as Vergil, the cooler of the two Sparda brothers. Yeah, I said it. The Switch port will even include in-game style switching, similarly to how Dante operates in Devil May Cry 4 and 5, hopefully making DMC 3 feel more modern by comparison.

One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows – February 28th

One Punch Man

You might think that One Punch Man is a weird basis for a fighting game, considering Saitama’s immeasurable strength makes him a bit overpowered when compared to his peers. Still, Bandai Namco have decided to take on this herculean task with A Hero Nobody Knows, and the results actually look promising.

A Hero Nobody Knows includes an original storyline where you control your own character, interacting with the series regulars, which should appeal to fans of the series. Meanwhile, the game attempts to balance Saitama with the Hero Arrival System. Picking the One Punch Man himself means he’ll arrive late to a battle, meaning your team will have to survive until he gets there.
