Skins are just one of the many ways that players can tailor their Football Manager playing experience to their needs. The best thing about the Football Manager 2023 community is that there’s already tonnes of fantastic skins out there. No matter what you’re looking for in a skin, we can guarantee some creative person out there has already made one to catch your eye.

We’ve already spent some time playing with different skins (and figuring out how to apply them) and we’re here to take a look at some of our favourites. We may not help you find your new permanent choice, but we can at least showcase some of the strong skin-makers in the community.

What makes for a great FM skin, you  ask? That usually depends on the player. But for us, it’s one that can visually catch the eye, be it by making use of different colour schemes, or by making things look sleeker. Another way to stand out is to make gameplay more efficient or take things in a completely new direction that shakes up the gameplay.

Football Manager veterans will no doubt be familiar with the TCS skins. The creators have been collaborating on custom skins since 2019 and have returned for the 2023 edition of the game.

This skin has some really efficient quality-of-life tweaks like the instant result option, player faces showing on the tactics screen, and overall adaptability to suit each player. In addition, it has left room for modding to further personalise the experience This is an especially helpful download for content creators as one of the mods is made specifically for people streaming or recording their gameplay.

There’s arguably no other skin available as of this writing that offers as many additions as the WTCS skin. It is no doubt one of the best skins in Football Manager 20232, just as its predecessors were standouts in previous editions of the game.

2. DeeBeeDark

Is a dark skin a very basic option? Yes. Is this a very slick-looking UI? Yes. Is this one of the best skins we used? Also yes. While the DeeBeeDark download doesn’t have as many fancy features as other options it is a visually pleasing option that enhances your time spent playing the game.

It’s difficult to overstate just how nice this skin looks while playing the game. It looks great on every menu and provides a strong contrast to the colourful font used throughout the game. While it certainly won’t be for everyone, this skin caught our eye and is still our go-to every time we boot up the game.

There are a lot of dark skins made every year for Football Manager games, but we suspect that DeeBeeDark is the only one you’ll need this year. Unless of course, the Pink Panther skin resurfaces.

3. Narigon Skin

Football Manager detractors have long decried that it’s nothing but numbers. The Narigon skin embraces this criticism and focuses on making information easy to see over having flashy graphics. The onslaught of data could overwhelm some players but for others, it can be the key between success and failure.

It also has to be said that despite the creator focusing on information over the graphical appeal, it is still a very good looking skin. Serious FM players would be at a loss if they missed out on this fantastic creation.

At its heart, Football Manager is a numbers game. Having a skin dedicated to this core gameplay mechanic is never a bad thing, especially one as well-designed as Narigon.

4. Electric Panther

Playing any video game for an extended amount of time can be strenuous on the eyes. This can be especially true of the visual onslaught that is Football Manager. Electric Panther is an absolute lifesaver in that regard as it focuses solely on using soft colours.

As well as the visual upgrade it has some added mods to make life easier. The “last 11” option in particular can prove very helpful throughout your playing time. There are few custom skins as visually pleasing and efficient as Electric Panther this year.

With so many skins focusing on making the game darker it is a pleasure to have a skin showcasing such a different colour palette. Light colours are sometimes much better for the eyes than dark skins so be sure to have this one downloaded and ready to go.

5. Tato Skin

While this is another darker skin it is one that stood out to us during gameplay. There’s something about the way it centres the most important information that makes life a little bit easier. The additional stuff tends to get packed into corners or sides while the majority of the screen focuses on what’s important.

While graphically this does little to set itself apart from its contemporaries, it’s a very useful skin if you’re looking to have the important stuff front and centre.

6. Mr Hough Mashup

Creator: Mr Hough
Where to Find: FMInside

Mr Hough takes inspiration from TSC and OPZ Elite to create a skin that will leave some players drooling. Its best feature is that it takes background images into consideration, which means that players can have appropriate images clearly displayed in the background as they play. There’s even a customised transparency option so you can modify how bright or faded the background images are.

It’s otherwise a skin that doesn’t jump off the page, but its focus on one particular feature is sure to delight some of the fanbase. This might send you off in search of some cool background images but hey, customise the game to your heart’s content. That’s the joy of PC gaming after all.
