I’m not usually one to look ahead and see spoilers for NXT TV, but this caught my eye this morning and I had to read up on it to find out if it was true. Indeed, Asuka has vacated the NXT Women’s title, a championship which she has held for over 500 days, breaking several records including Goldberg’s notorious undefeated streak.

It was confirmed that just after her match at Takeover with Ember Moon, Asuka suffered a minor injury which would have kept her out of action for a few weeks. Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise? Asuka has been one of the most consistent and best booked parts of NXT since its inception, considering their decision to not have Ember Moon dethrone her and break the streak at Takeover: Brooklyn III, then there’s nobody who can really pose a credible threat to the champ. Letting her simply relinquish the title and leave NXT as the undefeated empress does wonders for her character ahead of her main roster debut.

No date has been set for Asuka’s arrival on either Raw or Smackdown, but let the speculation begin here! Perhaps she’ll be the next to challenge Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s title, in a division which sorely needs a few fresh faces. Needless to say, it’ll be huge when she makes her debut.
