Apex Legends Wattson Guide: Abilities, Skins & Tips

An electric Legend.

Wattson
Wattson

Wattson, the elecrifying Legend with a personal connection to the Apex Games, was added to Apex Legends as part of Season 2 of the game, which is named “Battle Charge”. A mainly defensive Legend, Wattson is someone who a lot of Apex players don’t really know how to make the most out of, discarding her capabilities as being a bit too situational to be good. There’s nothing wrong with having a situational Legend, especially when they can be incredibly potent in said situations.

With a little bit of practice, there’s no reason why you can’t feel as comfortable with Wattson as you would with any other Legend. Thanks to her repelling and healing abilities, she’s like an odd cross between Caustic and Overwatch’s Lucio/Mercy. She doesn’t have the flashiest of abilities (like, say, Wraith or Mirage), but with out Wattson guide you should be able to find your new favourite Legend in Apex Legends pretty quickly.

Apex Legends Wattson Bio

Wattson

Real Name: Natalie Paquette
Age: 22

Natalie ‘Wattson’ Paquette is a familiar face in the Apex Games, though for a different reason than most. Daughter of the Games’ lead electrical engineer, she studied his manuals to stay close to him, and discovered her calling at a young age. Though she could be completely distracted one moment and hyper-focused the next, electricity grounded her – its ordered, predictable flow made sense in a way the rest of the world didn’t.

She devoured every book she could on the subject, and eventually became such a skilled engineer that she was commissioned to build the Apex Games’ Modified Containment Ring. Unfortunately, her father died the day it was revealed, leaving her alone. At her lowest moment, a group of competitors invited her to return to the arena with them, assuring her she would always have a home. She now fights alongside her friends in the arena she helped build, destroying incoming missiles, recharging shields, creating fences, and using her pylon to silence fights that get too loud. Nobody knows the arena better than Wattson – anyone who underestimates her is in for a shock.

Apex Legends Wattson Abilties

Apex Legends Wattson abilities

Passive Ability: Spark of Genius – This is really not as underwhelming an ability as it may first appear. Being able to use a single Accelerant to get an Ultimate is huge, and the other side of the ability, which allows her to recharge her Tactical from her Ultimate, makes them all compliment each other fantastically.

Tactical Ability: Perimeter Security  –  This is a great ability to keep players begged back, though it isn’t the quickest to deploy compared to Caustic. That being said, there’s a far wider AOE if you can spread the wires further and in zig-zag shapes, so you can really keep the opposition on the backfoot — this thing stings.

Ultimate Ability: Interception Pylon –  Perhaps an overlooked Ultimate in the grand scheme of things, Interception Pylon is possibly the best defensive Ultimate you can have in Apex Legends. It recharges your shields and also blocks incoming ordnance, so if you’re in an extended fight and also have a Lifeline, you can expect constant health and shield aid.

How To Play As Wattson In Apex Legends

Apex Legends

It’s fair to say that Wattson lacks the “wow” factor that you might expect from a Season 2 launch Legend, but you overlook her at your abilities. Don’t be surprised to see her become an integral part of the competitive meta; a team comp of Lifeline, Caustic and Wattson seems crazy overpowered on paper.

As mentioned, Wattson is best suited to support and not leading the charge. Her hitboxes are small, but the clunky contraption on her back makes her stand out almost as much as the big boys like Gibraltar and Caustic.

Wattson really comes alive in enclosed spaces and in the final couple of circles when the combat becomes more concentrated and won by small margins. Her Ultimate gives her and her team a constant shield recharge, and her Tactical gives you some breathing space from the competition if you need to heal up. It’s not quite as disorientating as Caustic’s, but the Tactical can be killer in the small “townships” dotted around Kings Canyon, as well as within canyons themselves. Luckily, there’s no ill effect on your teammates.

She does have a couple of weaknesses, however. Her fences can be disabled with shots to their bases, and her Ultimate can also recharge the shields of opposition. Adding to that, the fences are slightly clunky to deploy in the heat of battle and can’t really get you out of trouble as well as some other abilities.

All that being said, Wattson is still one of the most versatile and intriguing Legends on the roster. While most players are yet to fully embrace her, you’d be remiss to not give her a few matches.

From our Apex Legends review:

“Even the most jaded of battle royale fans will find their interest rejuvenated by Apex Legends thanks to Respawn’s attention to detail, superior gunplay, and fantastic innovations, though the loot boxes and progression system certainly need addressing.”
