CV ASKS: What’s Your Favourite Game of 2018?

Red Dead? God of War? The Quiet Man? Let us know!

Favourite games 2018

It’s fair to say that 2018 has been an absolutely massive year for gaming, even if I do seem to repeat myself with each passing year. With had legendary developers showing they can still hang with the best of them after years away, the return of an angry boi into a melancholy boi, and plenty of indie delights.

Trying to pick favourites this year feels like the hardest since 2015 when we saw Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, and Metal Gear Solid V all worthy of attention. You’d expect many GOTY shows to be split for 2018 between God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and maybe even an outside pick like Celeste. We’ll also probably see Fortnite on plenty of shortlists despite the fact it came out last year and is still in beta, but whatever.

If I had to nail down my favourite games of the year, I’d have to go with three as I would struggle to pick just one. It’s been that kind of year.

My picks:

– God of War
– Dead Cells
– Wandersong

God of War squeezes every inch of life out of the PS4 and delivers one of the best action experiences of all-time, as well as the heart to match. I’ve been following Dead Cells since its Early Access launch and was thrilled to find that time had been spent on making the charming “Roguevania” as good as it possibly could be. Lastly, Wandersong may not be the year’s biggest game, but it had the biggest effect on me for sure — the closing chapters still get me feeling a little wobbly.
