Update: Epic Games have just confirmed that jetpacks will be coming to Fortnite soon.

Original story: After being teased and then taken away just as it was seemingly ready to be added, it looks like jetpacks may finally be making their way into Fortnite.

The news comes from the somewhat reliable FNBR Leaks on Twitter after they noticed the following in the game’s files:

“Close quarters combat with Shotguns & Jetpacks. If you find a jetpack, double-tap the jump button to take off. Keep the button held down to apply thrust. Make sure to land before it runs out of fuel.”

If the info is correct, the jetpacks will be available as part of the week 5 LTM for Fortnite’s fourth season. It’s probably for the best that they’re kept to these special circumstances; new players have it hard enough without Omegas Thunderball-ing their shotguns into faces.

Obviously you should take this with a pinch of salt as it’s not been confirmed, but it has been months and months since there was any word on jetpacks at all. They were “cancelled” due to a few issues with them, but as Epic have nailed verticality with Hop Rocks, they might have finally found the solution.
