Smash Bros. Final Character Reveal Important ‘Even if You Don’t Play’

The final fighter’s reveal tomorrow will be the end of an era.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Tomorrow, the world will learn who will be the final downloadable fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and fans are very anxious to find out who’s going to get the final slot. Will it be Sora? Master Chief? Goku? Will Waluigi finally crawl out of Nintendo purgatory?

Whatever the answer may be, game director Masahiro Sakurai has encouraged people to tune into the announcement, even if they do not play Smash.

In a tweet, Sakurai said, “In one day, the final fighter of “Smash Bros. SP” will be announced. Even if you don’t play “Smash Bros.”, if you are interested in the game, please watch it.”

Sakurai, who’s been hard at work with the rest of the Smash team working on new fighters since Ultimate was first released in 2018, followed that tweet up with another, saying “The new fighter may be a character that you don’t know or different from what you expected. But I hope you enjoy the broadcast itself and I had fun recording it.”

It’s not going to be Waluigi after all, is it?

Sakurai and his team have spent three years adding new characters to Smash, including Persona 5’s Joker, Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth, and Minecraft’s Steve, among other video game presences that would have seemed impossible back when fans were crowding around CRT TV’s to play Melee.

The announcement broadcast will begin at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm UK on October 5.
