For anyone hoping for a miracle, GTA 6 is not announced for PS4 or Xbox One, and it just won’t be happening. There have been miracle older gen ports in the past, but the most expensive game of all time definitely will not be getting ported to 13-year old tech.
Rockstar’s confirmed launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X & S, with release scheduled for 19 November 2026. A PC release is expected sometime in the future. No word on Switch 2, but it’s unlikely for the next couple of years at the very least.
If you’re buying the game, check the actual platform label rather than just the PlayStation or Xbox branding, which can cause confusion.
Can You Play GTA 6 on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X?
No version has been announced for either. PS4 Pro belongs to the PS4 family, while Xbox One X belongs to the Xbox One family. Neither is the PS5 or Xbox Series X listed for GTA 6.
The Xbox names are particularly easy to mix up:
– Xbox One X: older generation, not coming.
– Xbox One S: older generation, not coming.
– Xbox Series X: confirmed.
– Xbox Series S: confirmed.
Yes, Series S is supported despite being the smaller, less powerful Series console. Rockstar lists Series X & S, not Series X alone. There has been no footage at all of this version of the game ahead of its launch, so buyer beware.
Will Ultimate Edition Work on an Older Console?
Buying a different edition doesn’t change the supported hardware. Standard and Ultimate are editions of GTA 6, not separate releases for different console generations.
