This has flown under the radar a little bit, but last week, Codemasters confirmed that Dirt 5 saves won’t transfer across from PS4 to PS5. Meanwhile, saves from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S will transfer without issue. The news was announced via the below tweet.
Currently on Xbox, all progress can be carried over between generations. On PlayStation, your Playgrounds creations can be carried over, but other game progress (Career, currency, saved liveries) cannot. If that changes, we'll let you know!

Again, this news is a week old, but it’s recently been brought to the surface as earlier this week, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirmed that Yakuza: Like A Dragon would also not support save data transfers. This is on top of the fact that the game will only launch on PS5 four months after the next-gen version launches on Xbox Series X/S.
To clarify, physical owners of Yakuza: Like a Dragon on PS4 can also use the original disc to upgrade to the PS5 version when it releases on March 2, 2021.
Save data will not be transferable between the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.

Can Any PS4 Saves Transfer To The PS5?
Yes, though it seems the distinction is being made arbitrarily. Spider-Man Remastered, the bonus for players who purchase Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5, will not allow players to transfer their saves from the PS4 version of the game to the PS5. However, it was announced this week that players who purchase Miles Morales on PS4 will be able to pick up where they left off on PS5.

Is There An Explanation?
Again, the decision seems to be made arbitrarily, but the fact that Playground saves can be accessed across PS4 and PS5 is telling. Playgrounds are tracks that players can create, edit and race, and it’s likely that these will be stored on a Codemasters server, so this suggests that there’s an issue with PS4 save data being accessed by the PS5. No idea what that would be, but Miles Morales is still offering a cross-save solution. Without the knowledge of Sony’s inner workings, it seems baffling why other games aren’t supporting this.
But Xbox Are Fully Supporting Cross-Saves?
Oh yeah, and they made sure to fire off a shot earlier this week regarding this whole situation, with Major Nelson showcasing the ability to pick up his Fallout 4 save on the Xbox Series X and carry on as you were. Xbox’s Marketing Boss Aaron Greenberg even made sure to rub salt in the wound.
