Microsoft Reportedly Interested In Buying Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

Making those money moves.

It’s been revealed via a report from The Information (which is behind a log-in wall, though VG24/7 also covered the news) that Microsoft are looking into purchasing Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which is currently in consideration to be sold off by current owners AT&T as a means of easing their massive $154 billion debt.

The Information’s anonymous source also confirmed that huge companies such as Take-Two, Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts are also looking at purchasing Warner Bros., which would include studios like Avalanche Studios, NetherRealm, Rocksteady, TT Games and more. While new licensing deals would have to be negotiated for the likes of Batman, Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings, franchises like Mortal Kombat would be included in the sale.

Currently WB Games and its collective studios are working on a Batman reboot, along with a possible Suicide Squad game, and an often rumoured Harry Potter RPG, and it’s likely that NetherRealm are planning and working on an Injustice 3 at the moment. Whoever manages to purchase Warner Bros will have a healthy collection of games and fantastic development studios at their disposal. For Microsoft, it would also mean a steady supply of exclusives for the Xbox. It’ll be interesting to see how this story develops over the coming months.
