The long-awaited open world survival game Stranded Deep is finally out now on consoles with the release of its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

Stranded Deep was set to be published for consoles by Telltale, whose sudden closure in 2018 put that in jeopardy. The game’s developers, Beam Team, decided to step up and publish it themselves, but not before a short delay due to the worldwide situation. Its release date was something of a surprise, it being announced just yesterday (April 20th).

Sam Edwards & Ben Massey, the two-man team who started Stranded Deep, were very happy to see their game finally coming to consoles:

“On a personal note, when we picked up the controller to play a final approved PS4 build the other night it was… surreal. This is our passion project and first console game finally coming to life. We’ve been working on this game for over 5 years now, a couple of guys out of Brisbane that had jobs in other industries before, but we loved games and we wanted to build something we thought would be fun and people would like to play.”

With Mostly Positive reviews on Steam, Stranded Deep is a bit of a survival favourite for genre fans and has come along well since its Early Access launch in 2015. In Stranded Deep, players must survive the rigours of the Pacific Ocean by fending off animal attacks and staying hydrated and fed with the eventual hope of escaping back to civilization. It features all the hallmarks of the genre, including crafting and unavoidable death.

Stranded Deep Price

Currently in Early Access on Steam for £10.99/$14.99, Stranded Deep will set you back £15.99/$19.99 on the PlayStation Store and £16.74/$19.99 via the Microsft Store for its Xbox One version. It looks like you can only pick it up digitally, at least for the time being.

Stranded Deep Reviews

Due to how suddenly it was released, it doesn’t look like there are any reviews of Stranded Deep on consoles just yet.

Survival games can be a bit of a mixed bag on consoles: for every The Forest, there’s a DayZ. It’s something that has made Facepunch reticent to rush Rust on consoles, so here’s hoping this port is up to scratch. Stay tuned, we may pick up the game ourselves and relay what we find.
