60 SECOND REVIEWS: Mass Effect: Andromeda

Mass Effect: Andromeda is the first foray into the Mass Effect franchise since 2012. After a five year wait, Andromeda sees you as a Pathfinder, who must colonise new worlds in a new galaxy.

“New” is the keyword here, but one that doesn’t exactly represent the game as a whole. It feels, in a lot of ways, like a retread of the first game, which actually isn’t the worst thing.

Andromeda comes with enough content to tide you over for dozens of hours, plenty of crafting options, and combat that feels cinematic if streamlined. Where Andromeda thrives, though, is in its smaller moments: the conversations between you and your crew.

It certainly feels like a Mass Effect game, except without a lot of the polish. Andromeda is indeed a mess, but not irredeemably so. The facial animations need work and have more jank than a jank bank full of stank, but they don’t ruin the entire experience.

Ultimately, Mass Effect: Andromeda is a good game. It isn’t great, just good. Hopefully Bioware can take it back to the stars where it belongs next time.

Rating: 7.5/10
