2018’s Most Played Switch Game In Europe Was, Unsurprisingly, Fortnite

Who saw that coming? Oh, everyone.

Fortnite

Nintendo have revealed a list of the top 21 most played games on the Switch in Europe, proving that even one of the mightiest gaming companies in the world isn’t immune to publishing lists with an odd number of entries. Less surprising was the game that took the top spot: Fortnite.

The list, published via the Switch’s News channel, doesn’t divulge how long players spend actually playing Fortnite, but the free-to-play sensation sits proudly atop the mountain. The rest of the top 5 is composed of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

First party titles hold the majority of the list, with 12 games out of 21 coming from Nintendo themselves. Yes, we’re including Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle even though Ubisoft created it. It’s got Mario in it, after all. However, less than half of the games featured are 2018 releases, which points to the longevity of Nintendo titles, especially with the online capabilities of Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Now we wait for Smash Bros. and Pokemon to rise to the top of this list for 2019.

Here’s the full list of 21 Switch games, feel free to come to your own conclusions in the comments below.
