Constantine Fans Launch Petition To Revive Show

After Constantine’s recent appearance on CW’s Arrow, the Hellblazer’s fans have decided the time is right for his return. A petition gathering speed online and on social media is demanding the return of the short lived Constantine TV show on a different network. At time of publication, the petition had garnered more than 24,000 signatures in four days.

Constantine ran for a single 13 episode season between 2014 and 2015 on NBC. The show followed master of the occult John Constantine as he tackled demons, curses and a mysterious force called the rising darkness. After its final episode NBC remained tight-lipped about a second run for several months before quietly cancelling the show in May 2015.

More recently Constantine actor Matt Ryan reprised the role on CW’s Arrow, successfully giving the show a ratings boost. This may be part of the reason fans have chosen this moment to launch their petition.

A portion of the petition states: “On November 4th, 2015, it was proved that the Constantine fanbase is still very much alive as evidenced by the reception to the character’s appearance on the 5 episode of Arrow’s fourth season.

“We encourage you to sign this petition to show the various networks available to pick this show up that there is in fact interest for the show to live on.”

The petition also claims a revived Constantine on a new network would be “a win for both sides”. Interestingly, the show spent several weeks after its original cancellation looking for a new home, but networks were unconvinced at the time.

Perhaps Constantine’s success on Arrow is proof enough for fans that a revival can be a success. Whether networks will change their mind is another question. Either way, the petition picks out an eclectic list of names to target: CW itself, USA Network, Netflix, Yahoo and even Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez.

Expectations are probably low for a real revival, but a connection to the CW’s comic book universe could give Constantine a new sheen. Potential guest spots from regulars on Arrow and The Flash could make the show that little bit more appealing to TV executives.
