Southpaw Regional Wrestling: WWE Cryptically Announce New Wrestling Show

It looks like this WWE Network newest exclusive show may be the best thing ever.

A trailer, first posted on WWE’s official Twitter account and retweeted via John Cena, gave us our first look at Southpaw Regional Wrestling, WWE’s tongue-in-cheek parody of classic Southern pro wrestling.

It gives an initial impression of ‘Adult Swim’ meets ‘WWE’. It looks silly as all hell, but also like it could be some of the most wonderful and crazy original content the Network has produced since its inception.

WWE haven’t always had what I would describe as ‘home-runs’ with previous attempts at original comedy series, such as Camp WWE and Swerved, but #SRW looks like it is ready and willing to embrace the right amount of self-awareness and weirdness to make this a hit.

The trailer includes many of the current WWE roster, including: Chris Jericho, Lana and Rusev, TJ Perkins (as a moustachioed champion), Gallows and Anderson, Fandango, Tyler Breeze, Cesaro, The Ascension, amongst a whole host of crappy green screens, grainy camera footage, wigs, weird masked figures and other general craziness.

John Cena appears notably as host and commentator Lance Catamaran.

The WWE Twitter account only cryptically said of Southpaw Regional Wrestling that it is ‘Coming this Friday’ (March 17th).

Reactions to the trailer on Twitter are already massively positive. The show is feverishly anticipated with some, even before a full episode has been released yet, demanding Southpaw produce live shows and tour the fictional brand.
