We Won’t Be Seeing Any Steam Dev Days This Year

Steam

Valve’s Tom Giardino has announced over on Twitter that Valve won’t be hosting any Steam Dev Days in 2017, and that the chances of any happening in 2018 are “not very likely”.

First hosted in 2014, Steam Dev Days are multi-day conferences which feature talks, trailers, game demos and more from both Valve employees, and outside developers who have benefited from Steam’s technology and popularity. Valve officially describe the Dev Days with the following:

Steam has enabled game makers to be INNOVATIVE, CUSTOMER-FOCUSED AND PROFITABLE, and we think OPENNESS AND COLLABORATION are driving that success. We believe that developers have just as much to learn from one another as they have to learn from Valve, and EVERY DEVELOPER who joins the conference makes it that much more valuable. Join the conversation. LET’S GET CONNECTED.

Valve skipped the show in 2015 to focus on GDC, and now it looks like we won’t be seeing another one for a few years. Disappointed gamers were eager to find out more about the VR games that Valve is currently working on, and to learn more about the technology that powers them.

If there’s one thing that Valve’s fans have, it’s patience, and hopefully the Dev Days will return in some form or another…even if we do have to wait until 2019 to see something new.
