Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty – Where To Use Golden Cicada Shells

Because Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a Soulslike game, that means there’s a couple of NPCs, side quests and items that might seem a bit confusing at first glance. One such item is the Golden Cicada Shell, which doesn’t seem to have a clear purpose when you first find one. However, after a while, their purpose in the game becomes clear.

What Are Golden Cicada Shells?

The Golden Cicada Shells are items that can be found scattered around the various battlefields of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. They’re not loot drops, and they have to be found at specific locations. While some are easier to find, others will require you to search top to bottom in order to find them. Initially, they don’t seem to serve any purpose, but when you reach a certain point in the game, they’ll become useful.

Where To Use Golden Cicada Shells

Golden Cicada Shells become useful once you reach Part 3 of the game and unlock the Hidden Village. At the furthest end of the village from where you spawn in is a huge tower. On top of said tower is a hermit who is hoping to use Golden Cicada Shells to achieve immortality. It definitely doesn’t sound like a shady deal that’d cause the hermit to become more and more like Gollum every time you give him shells, but he does give you some rewards for your efforts.

The hermit will only give rewards after every few Golden Cicada Shells, which seems to be around every 3-5 Shells. His voice lines will also change after these rewards too, indicating the man’s descent into Golden Cicada Shell madness.

The Golden Cicada Shell hermit isn’t the only person you can speak to in the Hidden Village, as there are a couple of side quests to complete, include the case of the Taoist’s House Keys.
