If you love adventure and historical fiction, Nathan Drake and his treasure-hunting exploits are the thing for you. Ever since its initial release in 2007, Uncharted has risen to the top of the adventure game genre and has competed with other heavy hitters like Tomb Raider and Far Cry.

Uncharted currently has 5 major releases and even some expansions, remastered versions, and re-releases. Although some of the games have a number on them to indicate their place in the order, not all of them do. So, if you’re new to the franchise, it can be confusing to know which of Nathan Drake’s adventures to go for first. Here’s every Uncharted game in order to help you wade through it all.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

The Uncharted release order is the best bet if you’re new to the franchise. Playing the games the way the developers intended is almost always the safest bet because they structured it to make more sense this way. You’ll also be avoiding any essential spoilers this way.

This list will include all games, standalone, and their remastered versions. Even the ones that don’t have any essential plot like the card and mobile games are included here. We’ve italicised the games that are non-canon.

  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (2007)
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011)
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss (2011)
  • Uncharted: Fight for Fortune (Card Game) (2012)
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (Remastered versions of Uncharted 1, 2 and 3) (2015)
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016)
  • Uncharted: Fortune Hunter (Mobile Puzzle Game)  (2016)
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017)
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (Remastered versions of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy) (2022)

Obviously, you don’t have to play every single game on this list since some are just remastered versions. The remastered versions have all received positive reviews, so they’re worth buying if you can afford them.

Also, for PC players, Legacy of Thieves is the only available option for the platform. There is sadly no way to play Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, 2, 3, and Golden Abyss on PC right now, with Golden Abyss being exclusive to the Vita and available nowhere else.

For those replaying the entire series and who want to get another perspective on how things played out for Nathan, you can try playing them in chronological order. It’s pretty similar to the release order except that Golden Abyss goes before anything else.

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss (2011)
  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune (2007)
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
  • Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011)
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016)
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (2017)

Remastered versions and the games that have no plot aren’t included in the list since this is all about how the plot of the series flows.

Here are the Uncharted games that don’t have a significant plot and are non-canon. These are mainly just gameplay and don’t really add anything to the narrative of the Uncharted series, and are the worst games in the series:

  • Uncharted: Fight for Fortune (Card Game) (2012)
  • Uncharted: Fortune Hunter (Mobile Puzzle Game) (2016)

If you’re going for the chronological order, there’s no need to play these two. However, if you still want to play them, you can do so at any point in the series without worrying about ruining the order.
