Why Cesaro Has Left WWE

This was meant to be a quiet exit

WWE’s resident Swiss strongman, Cesaro, has unfortunately parted ways with WWE.

The news comes as Cesaro’s WWE contract hits its expiry date, and the two parties failing to negotiate suitable terms for its extension. Cesaro decided to ‘quietly’ leave WWE and explore new avenues in his career after rejecting WWE’s best offers.

Because of the nature of Cesaro’s departure, being that he left the company rather than being released, it could mean that he isn’t tied down to any no-compete clause, meaning he could be free to appear for any company he wishes as early as today.

Cesaro’s situation in WWE was looking dire prior to this news, with little to no booking coming his way on the current product. Having wrestled for the company for 11 years, it seemed that the last and biggest opportunity presented to Cesaro was at last year’s WrestleMania, where he defeated Seth Rollins in one of the best matches of the two-night card. Cesaro then went on to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in a losing effort but proved that he had what it takes to be a main-event attraction.

Cesaro then faded into the background once again, most recently losing to Happy Corbin on an episode of SmackDown Live.

‘The Swiss Superman’ was long considered one of WWE’s most under-utilised talents, could this departure lead to that potential being fulfilled elsewhere?
