When Does Fortnite: Chapter 3 – Season 2 Start?

Fortnite: Chapter 3 – Season 1 has been one of the most well received in Fortnite’s long and storied history, but nothing can last forever. There’s no doubt plenty of fans who are looking forward to the start of Chapter 3 – Season 2.

With Fortnite: Chapter 3 – Season 1 set to conclude on March 19th, you might expect that the new season of Fortnite will launch on that same day. However, Epic meant that the 19th will be the last full day for Season 1, as Chapter 3 – Season 2 will start on Sunday, March 20th, 2022.

Fortnite will go into downtime on Sunday, March 20th, 2022 at 3 AM ET / 7 AM GMT and then likely be down for a few hours before Season 2 officially begins.

A new season launching on a weekend is a bit odd. However, seeing as how Chapter 3 itself launched on a weekend, it’s not unreasonable for Season 2 to launch on a week as well. The Chapter 3 launch seemed to break records for Epic, so they might be trying to catch lightning in a bottle again.

What To Expect From Fortnite: Chapter 3 – Season 2

Epic has been a little understated when it comes to marketing Season 2 of Chapter 3 so far, especially compared to other season. The lack of an event and seemingly little build-up has made some feel a little jaded.

However, this is likely just to reflect the same situation in Chapter 2 and Chapter 1 before it, when Epic would start off slowly before ramping up over the course of a chapter. An event and loads of story right at the start of Chapter 3 might cause players to expect too much, too soon, so a more gradual build makes more sense.

We have had some build, though, with Season 2 likely to involve IO again in a big way now that they are once again on the “right” side of the island after burrowing their way through. Could we get another version of Season 2 from Chapter 2 in which Ghost faced off with Shadow, but now it’s The Seven vs IO?

As for the crossovers, it’s believed that Doctor Strange could be making his way to the island, presumably as part of the Battle Pass. Who else will be coming to the Fortnite island in Season 2?

As well as that, it seems as if something major might be going down with the Battle Bus, with it perhaps being taken over by IO. Watch this space.

Fortnite is free-to-play on PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android.
