WB Games & Avalanche Open World Harry Potter RPG Leaked

Telltale Games Harry Potter

Footage for an open-world RPG in the Harry Potter universe and set to be published by WB Games has leaked online. Reports from both Eurogamer and Kotaku suggest that this is a legitimate leak, which has also been corroborated by BBC correspondent Lizo Mzimba.

The footage, which has been copyright claimed by WB Games (possibly the biggest verification for the leak’s autheniticity) from YouTube, though mirrors are popping up all over. Just from an early glance at how it’s shaping up, it may actually be — ahem — magical.

Redditor VapeThisBro first brought the footage to the Internet’s attention after he was shown the video during some market research. The video shows a character creator as well as a tonne of famous iconography from the franchise alongside some suprisingly violent combat and some beautiful visuals.

Some thought that Rocksteady were behind the game, being that they are owned by WB Games and that they are based in the UK. However, sources have instead pointed at Avalanche Software (not Avalanche Studio, the Just Cause guys) as the developers. Avalanche previously worked on Disney Infinity before its cancellation, leading them to being temporarily dissolved before being snapped up by WB Games. They have worked on a Cars 3 tie-in since joining the WB Games umbrella so they certainly have the time spare, as well as recently growing in size with new job listings.

As with all leaks, take this reveal of a AAA Harry Potter open world RPG with a pinch of salt before it’s officially revealed. However, with WB Games moving fast to take the video down from YouTube, it seems a matter of not if but when.

It would be nice for Harry Potter fans to finally have a game that isn’t, well, completely awful. The last movie tie-in in was an insipid shooter, and the less said about Hogwarts Mystery, the better. Someone other than Traveller’s Tales has to find the magic formula for a good Harry Potter game, right?
