You might be inclined to think The Hunger Games ended in 2015 with Mockingjay – Part Two, but there’s always more stories to tell. Turning the clock back decades on the life of President Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes means it’s prequel time for the enduringly popular dystopian science fiction series. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is also based on a book written in 2020 by Suzanne Collins, detailing President Snow’s formative years in his rise to ruthless, brutal power. For fans of this film series, it’s been a long time waiting for another cinematic entry, and the wait ends in the US and UK on November 17th, 2023.

A movie like The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is arguably best appreciated in theaters. However, we know exactly when and where you’ll be able to stream this 5th movie in the series. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be streaming Songbirds and Snakes until May of next year, but there’s a bit more to it than that.

Where to Rent The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Online

Lionsgate likes to wait a little while for their movies to hit digital and beyond. This means you can expect The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes to run in theaters for at least a month. Once the theatrical window is closed, you’ll soon be able to rent or buy the movie digitally. Lionsgate hasn’t given anyone a specific date, but if the movie takes a month or even six weeks to finish its theatrical release schedule, you’ll be able to rent or buy the film by January 2024. A physical media release isn’t out of the question, but you’re not going to see one until mid-next year at the latest, if at all. A physical release timed with the digital unrolling would be nice of course, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Where to Stream The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Online

Since Lionsgate and NBCUniversal signed a deal for theatrical Lionsgate releases last year, we know exactly where the Hunger Games prequel is going to wind up. You’ll be able to watch The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes on Peacock (subscriptions start at US $5.99/£9.99) by the middle of spring 2024 (April or May). Unlike other studios, Lionsgate likes to give their films time to make some money at the box office. The movie may be in theaters for as long as two months, as has sometimes been the case with their movies. However, once the movie has cleared that theatrical window, it’ll appear on digital rental/purchase outlets in short order.

About The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

It’s been seven full years since a Hunger Games movie played in theaters. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes features a mostly young cast, as well as a world that was only alluded to in previous entries. There’s a lot riding on the notion that people will be eager for a prequel story in this universe, and that seven years between movies has only made hearts grow fonder for more. Early buzz for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes has been a bit on the mixed side with critics, but fans will have the chance to find out for themselves soon.
