If horror movies like the upcoming Lionsgate release of Saw X are to be believed, death is never truly the end. Returning fan favorite John Kramer/Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) to the forefront for a film set between the 2004 original and the first sequel, Saw X is a welcomed blast of nostalgia. Fans are looking forward to a story that promises to emphasize cunning, complex traps, with perhaps more than a few nods to the characters and lore people are excited to see come back.
Saw X is already generating early praise for delivering exactly what the trailers have promised. John Kramer is back. The traps are brutal. The movie is absolutely rated R for the kind of violence that’s always welcome among not only fans of this series, but fans of the genre, as well.
Saw X opens everywhere September 29th, 2023. While distributor Lionsgate may not have their own streaming service, we can pretty easily figure out where to watch Saw X online, regardless of how you’d like to do that. We’ll also tell you when Saw X will be coming to physical media.
Where to Rent Saw X
Given that Saw X is a major release, returning the franchise to its roots and opening on thousands of screens worldwide, this is a big theatrical event. As such you can expect the film to stay in theaters for anywhere from 4 weeks to 45 days. We’ll say a month for Saw X, as that’s the average for most movies these days.
Late October to rent or purchase the film digitally also makes sense because that will bring us right up to Halloween. Physical media is a distinct possibility, as Lionsgate is no doubt aware that this is a fan base that wants a Blu-ray release to go with the rest of the collection. A physical media release a month from now seems highly unlikely, but something before the end of 2023 is more likely than not.
Where to Stream Saw X
As we mentioned already, Lionsgate doesn’t have their own streaming service (thank you, Lionsgate). Their films tend to follow the unique path of going to the premium movie subscription Starz, followed by a release to Peacock. Assuming Saw X can be rented or purchased digitally by Halloween, you may get to stream the film on Peacock before the end of the year. However, Lionsgate movies are usually available on Peacock anywhere from 45 to 90 days after its theatrical window has closed. It seems more probable that you’ll be able to stream Saw X around March 2024.
About Saw X
Desperately in search of a cure for his cancer, John Kramer (Bell) happens upon a unique opportunity for an unorthodox procedure in Mexico. However, the procedure turns out to be a complete sham. As you can imagine, incurring the wrath of a sadistic genius who builds elaborate and highly successful deathtraps for his victims does not go well for these con artists. Saw X will also see John once again working alongside his disciple Amanda, played once more by the great Shawnee Smith.
Saw X is seemingly going to be a straightforward, simple return to what made this franchise iconic from the word go. Joining the cast of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith will be Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, and Michael Beach. Kevin Greutert also returns as director, having helmed Saw VI and Saw 3D. Everything seems to be in place for a fun, bloody comeback.
