Where To Watch Inside No. 9

Whether it's a spooky old house or a backstreet lockup, anything can happen inside number 9.

The central conceit of anthology show Inside No. 9 is a simple enough device – every week, the story is entirely contained within a No. 9, whether that’s a house, a hotel room, or even a squad car. From this self-imposed limitation comes a modern classic,  equally able to turn its hand to laugh-out-loud comedy or edge-of-your-seat tension, and usually both. Here’s where to watch Inside No. 9 in the UK and US.

Inside No. 9 Synopsis

“Just so you know, Andras has a bell by his bed. He won’t ring it. He’s never rung it, but I’m telling you just in case.”

Inside No. 9 has six seasons and counting. Creators, writers, and frequent leading men Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton were already well-known for blending comedy and horror with The League Of Gentlemen and Psychoville, but Inside No. 9 may have outshone both. Taking its cues from classic anthology shows like Tales From The Crypt and Alfred Hitchcock Presents, each episode quickly weaves a fresh story full of underlying tension and dark secrets.

The format by nature allows a great deal of experimentation, and Shearsmith and Pemberton make full use of this – one episode is in Shakespearean iambic pentameter, another is almost completely silent, and occasionally they simply cry havoc and present a work of straight-out horror. What particularly helps with that is being stuck inside a No. 9 of some sort, which makes things claustrophobic from the off, and the very first episode gleefully turns this up further by forcing everyone into a cupboard.
