We’re a few years into Nicolas Cage’s return to big screen, big budget projects after years in the chaotic wilderness of Video on Demand (VOD). Dream Scenario from A24 looks to keep that momentum going for Cage.
Another high concept release from A24, this movie from writer/director Kristopher Borgli offers a fascinating premise involving a man who suddenly appears in the dreams of thousands, a strong cast, and the sweet, sweet promise of Nicolas Cage going completely off the rails. This is one of the A24 movies that will be getting a theatrical run, and audiences can look forward to seeing this bizarre film on the big screen on November 10th, 2023.
However, if you’d rather wait to see it from the comfort of your own home, you’ll want to know where to watch Dream Scenario online. A couple of months from now is a solid guess, but let’s go a little deeper than that.
Where to Rent Dream Scenario Online
The theatrical window for an A24 release can vary wildly from one film to the next. If we assume this movie is on a similar path with recent titles like Talk to Me or Beau is Afraid (writer-director Ari Aster is also a producer here on Dream Scenario), we can piece together some answers.
Beau is Afraid is still not on a streaming service at time of writing, but it became available digitally to rent and buy approximately two months after its April 2023 release. A physical media release came along in July 2023. Elsewhere, Talk To Me had a physical media release that dropped in October 2023, just in time for Halloween, and it was available to rent online a while before that.
What does all of this mean for Dream Scenario? As far as buying or renting the film digitally is concerned, you should have those options no later than January 2024. It might become available much sooner, with a physical media release being possible in this same window of time.
Where to Stream Dream Scenario Online
We may see Dream Scenario take a similar path to Talk to Me, as far as where it will land among the streaming services and when. Talk to Me was released in late July of this year and is currently available to stream on Netflix in the UK (subscription prices start at £7.99 per month). However, many A24 films seem to wind up on Showtime. At least, up to any major A24 releases up to the year 2022.
Most 2023 A24 films are as of this writing not available on streaming services. It remains to be seen if Showtime and A24 will continue with this arrangement, but if they do, the odds of Dream Scenario winding up there a few months or more after its upcoming November release will go up considerably.
A free trial of Showtime is currently available, with plans starting from $11.99 a month. UK viewers can enjoy Showtime through Paramount+, which costs £6.99 a month with a free trial also available.
About Dream Scenario
An utterly unremarkable biology professor named Paul Matthews (Cage) slowly comes to realize that he is passively appearing in thousands of peoples’ dreams. This turns Paul into an odd celebrity, which of course has some of the social consequences one would expect from this strangeness.
However, Dream Scenario in its earliest reviews is being depicted as a movie that will legitimately surprise its audience in many ways. You can find out for yourself in theaters this week or wait for a chance to rent the film in a month or two at least.
