In 2021, filmmaker Nia DaCosta gave us an excellent Candyman update, and it should be intriguing that she’s back in 2023 with The Marvels for Marvel Studios. Many feel a bit indifferent about this sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel and continuation of the 2022 Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, but there’s also a sizable fanbase that remains excited to see The Marvels. Will that be enough to sustain success for a $270,000,000+ budgeted theatrical release in a genre going through a lull? That in itself will be exciting to watch unfold.
If the theatrical experience just isn’t for you when The Marvels comes to US and UK theaters on November 10th, 2023, the next question no doubt is where you’ll be able to watch The Marvels online. It won’t be anytime in the immediate future, although ultimately no one knows exactly when The Marvels will come to Disney+ or anywhere else. Our prediction is that it’ll be sometime early in 2024, so let’s go over the details of our best guess.
Where to Rent The Marvels Online
The problem with nailing down a specific day for The Marvels being available to rent digitally, watch on Disney+, or even purchase physically, is that the MCU’s Multiverse Saga has been inconsistent with this.
Among the last several Marvel films released, only the last two have been consistently coming to Disney+ after 89 days. A digital rental or purchase option for The Marvels might mean you can do either of those things around Christmas 2023. That’s our most optimistic guess for when you’ll be able to rent or buy the movie, but a more probable window would be sometime in January 2024. A physical release of any sort, if it happens at all, will be around the same time it comes out digitally.
Where to Stream The Marvels Online
Barring a weird change, The Marvels will be streaming on Disney+ in the future, as is the case with almost every Disney-owned property.
As we mentioned before, the last two MCU releases from Disney turned up on Disney+ after 89 days. We have nothing concrete regarding this window and The Marvels, but let’s assume it’s going to follow the same path. This means you should mark your calendar for The Marvels hitting Disney+ on or before February 7th, 2024. It could be longer, but that’s unlikely. To date, nothing in this current era of Marvel films has taken longer than 89 days to get to Disney’s streamer. Fans would no doubt love to see The Marvels become available sooner, but we can only wait and see.
Their currently isn’t a free trial for Disney+ as of this writing, so you won’t be able to watch The Marvels online for free. Prices start from $7.99/£4.99 a month.
About The Marvels
While we don’t know everything to expect in The Marvels, we do have the basic plot down. Asking viewers to be familiar with three MCU shows and at least a couple of movies (such as the 2019 Captain Marvel), The Marvels sees Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) and Monica Rambeau becoming entangled in a bizarre situation.
The trio are seemingly unable to stop some unknown force that causes them to swap places with one another every time someone uses their powers. Their journey will take them to Nick Fury, currently hanging out in outer space as our longest tenured MCU character and actor (Samuel L. Jackson, who certainly still looks like he’s enjoying himself).
What happens next? What sort of threat will our heroes face in The Marvels? We’ll find out if these questions have compelling answers when the relatively short (105 minutes) epic releases on November 10th, 2023.
