Sony have finally announced the release date for the PS5 versions of Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, bundled together as Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. But what does the collection include, and if you already own the games on PS4, is there any way to receive an upgrade?

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Release Date

The Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves Collection will launch on January 28th, 2022 on PS5, with a PC release date still to be announced. Fingers crossed, players waiting for the collection to drop on Steam and EGS aren’t waiting too long, though the official PlayStation Blog promises more info coming soon.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection New Features

Aside from upgraded visuals and textures, the PS5 versions of these games include faster loading times, support for Spatial 3D Audio where supported, and even DualSense support with adjusted rumbles and adaptive triggers, all to heighten that sense of immersion. As for visuals and framerate, you can pick from three options:

Fidelity: Focuses on visuals above all else, delivering 4K at 30fps.
Performance: Essentially just the high framerate PS4 patch, delivers 60fps.
Performance+: If visuals aren’t your thing, Performance+ targets 1080p at 120fps.

It’s also worth noting that, between now and and February 3rd, 2022, purchasing the collection on the PlayStation Store will entitle you to a free movie ticket to see the Uncharted film at participating theaters, though the promotion is only open to residents in Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Price

This is where the collection gets a bit confusing. On its own, the collection will cost $49.99/€49.99/£44.99 both physically and digitally, but the problem comes if you already own any of the games featured here. If you own either Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End or Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on disc or digitally, or you own the digital bundle for both games on PS4, you’ll have to pay an extra $10/€10/£10 in order to access the PS5 version and its upgrades. The upgrade will be available to purchase from the game’s release date on January 28th; there’s no option to pre-order it.

Are There Any Restrictions To The PS5 Upgrade?

A couple, yeah. Firstly, if you own any of the games on disc on PS4, you’ll need to use those discs whenever you want to play the PS5 versions of these games, presumably even if you’ve already paid for the upgrade. Also, if you own the game on disc, but picked up a discless PS5 console, you won’t be entitled to any kind of upgrade.

Next on the list of people not entitled to any upgrade are those who obtained one of these games through PS+ subscriptions. If that’s the only way you own one of the three games listed, no upgrade for you. Lastly, this Collection removes the multiplayer mode that was present in both games, so in some ways, you’re paying more for less content.
