One of the best games of the year is about to take big steps towards ensuring its longevity: Uncharted 4 is getting its own co-op horde mode. Called Uncharted 4: Survival, you and a friend can team up to take on pirates, which is pretty much all you could ever want from a video game.
Picking up where Uncharted 2 and 3 left off with co-op arena mode, Survival will be available widely from mid-December but also be playable at this year’s PlayStation Experience. Oh, and it’s free. Pretty sure a few of you will be scuttling off to eBay after hearing that.
Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog game designer Vinit Agarwal said of the update:
“We’ve built upon and evolved the core gameplay experience with an entirely new level of depth, challenge, and variety. From new enemy types and powerful new bosses to a dedicated progression system and expansive upgradable arsenal, Survival is all about strategy, camaraderie, and skill.”
As this is a horde mode, expect Survival to demand a lot of attention the more you plow through the waves of enemies across ten different maps. There are fifty waves(!) in total to beat with a legendary pirate featuring as bosses every ten waves – you may have to have a proper team together to last long.
Just like the game’s already excellent multiplayer, Survival will come with its own currency system which can be earned from playing well and nailing modifiers. Levelling up and progression, a standard in almost every multiplayer game, is also going to be included.
