Netflix’s Trese gave Philippine folklore and mythology a chance to shine in the international spotlight. Based on the comics by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, the story follows Alexandra Trese as she investigates crimes by supernatural monsters in the city of Manila. Its first season reached the top 10 TV shows list in 19 countries, so fans are highly anticipating Season 2.
However, it’s been over two years, and we’ve yet to get a second season. Furthermore, Season 1’s post-credits scene teased that there’s more to the story and Alexandra has more enemies to face. So what gives? Is Trese cancelled? Or are the producers just taking their time? Here’s everything you need to know about Trese: Season 2.
When Is Trese: Season 2 Coming Out?
Unfortunately, Trese: Season 2 has no official release date. It’s also unclear if another season will happen in the first place. Still, the production team was optimistic for Season 2 at the time.
Director Jay Oliva seemed confident that a second season would happen. “It’s really strong in the Philippines. Netflix told me that it’s reliant on the Philippine market. The support the Philippines has given us is overwhelming,” the director told CNN Philippines. “I guarantee you if the ratings continue, I don’t see why we would not get multiple seasons after this.”
However, Netflix still hasn’t announced anything regarding Trese: Season 2. Some speculate that the show just didn’t spark enough global traction to merit a second season. With that, don’t expect Season 2 to come out anytime soon unless Netflix suddenly renews the series.
What Is Trese: Season 2 About?
While the plot hasn’t been confirmed, Trese: Season 2 will pick up where the first season left off. In the Season 1 finale’s post-credits, a new monster called a jiangshi (Chinese vampire) wreaked havoc on a couple of workers at the docks. The scene then cuts to the jiangshi on a rooftop, where she slyly mutters: “Trese,” revealing that she’s looking for Alexandra.
Season 2 could also take inspiration from the comics. The first season adapted short stories from the first three comics: “Murder at Balete Drive,” “Unreported Murders,” and “Mass Murders.” Since they didn’t animate the story one-to-one, they may cover the stories they skipped in another season.
Trese: Season 2 Confirmed Cast
If the show did continue, the following voice actors are expected to reprise their roles for Trese: Season 2:
- Shay Mitchell (English)/Liza Soberano (Filipino) as Alexandra Trese
- Griffin Puatu (English)/Simon Dela Cruz (Filipino) as Crispin and Basilio
- Carlos Alazraqui (English)/Eugene Adalia (Filipino) as Anton Trese
- Nicole Scherzinger (English)/Cheska Aguiluz (Filipino) as Miranda Trese
- Eric Bauza (English)/Christian Velarde (Filipino) as Nuno the Snitch
- Jon Jon Briones (English)/Christopher Carlo Caling (Filipino) as Hank
- Manny Jacinto (English)/Steve Dela Cruz (Filipino) as Maliksi
It’s unclear if Matthew Yang King and Apollo Abraham will return to voice Captain Guerrero, the same with Steve Blum and Bryan Encarnacion as Datu Talagbusao, considering their characters’ fate in Season 1.
Where To Watch Trese: Season 2 in the US
Since there’s no word regarding its release, Trese: Season 2 isn’t available in the US yet. But if it does get renewed, then Trese: Season 2 will be released on Netflix for US viewers. The show is a Netflix exclusive, so you can’t find it anywhere except by paying $6.99 monthly for a Netflix subscription.
In the meantime, people in the US can also watch Trese: Season 1 on Netflix while hoping for Season 2.
Where To Watch Trese: Season 2 in the UK
Trese: Season 2 isn’t available in the UK because it hasn’t been renewed. However, if a second season does get greenlit, UK viewers can expect Trese: Season 2 to drop on Netflix. You can get a Netflix subscription for as low as £4.99/per month.
Despite the second season being up in the air, Trese: Season 1 isn’t going anywhere as it’s still available on Netflix UK.
How Many Episodes Will Trese: Season 2 Have?
Without a renewal, Trese: Season 2’s episode count remains unclear. A second season could follow its predecessor’s footsteps with six 30-minute episodes. But since it’s been two years after its premiere, it’s unlikely we’ll get any episodes of Trese: Season 2.
Trese: Season 2 Trailer
Unfortunately, there’s no trailer for Trese: Season 2. At this point, we can only hope that Netflix surprises us with a Season 2 announcement soon. Until then, it’s best not to expect a Trese: Season 2 trailer to drop in the near future.
