SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced that they’re going back towards the start of their long-running strategy series, teaming with Feral Interactive to release Total War: Rome Remastered on PC via Steam on April 29th. Check out the official trailer at the top of the page.
What’s Special About Total War: Rome Remastered?
Total War: Rome Remastered is the same game players know and love that launched back in 2004, only better, with improved visuals that allow the game to support 4K, and overhauled environments, characters and textures.
The remaster also includes plenty of new gameplay content, such as 16 previously unplayable factions on top of the game’s already expansive 22 factions. You’ll also be able to send out Merchant agents on missions to establish trade routes and help build your empire’s economy. The Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions are also included, and Windows players will unlock access to the original Rome: Total War Collection.
The gameplay mechanics have also been improved to be up to the same standards of a modern strategy game, with a new tactical map during battles, heat maps in the campaign mode, an overhauled diplomacy system and a better camera. The help systems have been improved, with a redesigned tutorial, an in-game wiki, and even improved accessibility for colourblind players. There’s even crossplay between Windows, macOS and Linux, which is a first for the Total War franchise and is hopefully a tradition going forward.
What If I Already Own Total War: Rome?
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like you’ll be able to get a free upgrade for the new version of the game if you own Total War: Rome. However, pre-orders are live on Steam from today, and if you own the original game on Steam, you can purchase Total War: Rome Remastered for a 50% discount until June 1st 2021.
