Tom Holland Doing His Research For Nathan Drake Role In Uncharted Movie

I’m not a religious man, but I’ll pray to God that the Uncharted movie becomes the first decent live-action film based on a video game. Because making a decent video game adaption is apparently nothing short of a miracle.

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Night at the Museum and Stranger Things director Shawn Levy would helm an Uncharted movie for Sony Pictures, with Tom Holland starring as Nathan Drake, although things have been pretty quiet since then.

Holland recently posted a video to Instagram showing the menu screen for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (a compilation of the first three main entries in the series) with the caption, “For research purposes”. The video was swiftly removed, but not before Twitter user Cade Onder uploaded an archived version. Thanks to Screen Rant for pointing it out.

The reveal of the video was likely at the request of franchise owner Sony, which indicates that they are treating anything related to the Uncharted movie as top secret for now. At least Holland’s doing his research, and he was spectacular in both The Impossible and Spider-Man: Homecoming, so if all the elements fall into place, Uncharted might not suck as badly as its fellow video game adaptations.

Since the release of the first entry in 2008, the Uncharted franchise has gone on to sell over 36 million copies, making it Sony’s most successful gaming franchise to date. And even if the film does end up being a turkey, at least it probably won’t be as bad as Hitman: Agent 47.
