The Surge Getting New Expansion And Ultimate Edition This December

The Surge PS4 Review
The Surge

Deck13 have announced that their action RPG The Surge will be getting a new expansion that looks set to vary up the locations in a big way. It won’t just be sand and desolation, now it’ll be sand, desolation and ruined rollercoasters.

Entitled A Walk in the Park, this first proper expansion to The Surge will add a whole new area to the game, CREO World. Originally built as a theme park for CREO employees and their families before everything in the game goes to hell in a handbasket, the park has now become a nest of insanity, where former rescue workers and killer robots wait for new visitors to play with.

This DLC will also add 16 new types of weapons, armour and implants, new enemies and a new boss fight, with the whole DLC being described in the press release as “a challenge for even the most hardcore players in a striking environment”. Sounds daunting, so naturally we can’t wait for someone to finish it within 24 hours using a Guitar Hero controller.

Boy, Alton Towers has gone to shit.

If you’re like me and you’ve yet to experience what The Surge has to offer, a Complete Edition will also be launching at the end of the year, though a definitive release date for either the DLC or the Complete Edition hasn’t been confirmed. The Complete Edition, as you might imagine, includes the base game and all DLCs for the game, including A Walk in the Park.

We reviewed The Surge back when it launched in May, and reviewer Dean West was rather fond of the game, saying that: “The Surge is a worthy addition to the Souls-like genre, and brings enough in the way of new features and gameplay mechanics to distinguish itself from the pack.” Here’s hoping this expansion will continue the winning tradition for the game.
