The Rising of the Shield Hero

The Rising of the Shield Hero is considered one of the best isekai anime in recent years. Based on the light novel by Aneko Yusagi, it follows Naofumi Iwatani, who was summoned to a parallel world to become their Shield Hero. However, after heinous accusations and discrimination against his weapon, Naofumi has to protect the world despite being an outcast.

In its debut season, we saw Naofumi meet trustworthy companions and successfully clear his name after many incidents. Furthermore, his party went on to save another parallel world from the infamous Book Hero in Season 2. If you like the anime, you’re probably wondering when The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 comes out.

When Is The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 Coming Out?

UPDATE: Mark your calenders folks as The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 is scheduled to release in October 2023. An exact air date wasn’t mentioned but as the October is fast approaching, expect it to be revealed soon.

ORIGINAL STORY: As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3. Thankfully, Season 3 was announced alongside Season 2, so we’re just waiting for an official release date from the studio.

If we were to speculate, Season 3 might come out in 2023 at the absolute earliest. It could’ve been earlier, but Season 2 was pushed back from its fall 2021 release to spring 2022, which also affected Season 3’s release.

What Is The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 About? (Spoiler Alert)

Season 2 covered Volumes 6-9 of the light novel, so the next season might pick up from there. Although a few parts of Volume 10 were already adapted into the first season, they’ve yet to animate specific arcs, such as the Wrath Dragon and Fallen Heroes arcs.

Furthermore, Season 3 might change the number of volumes it animates since the previous season was criticized for its pacing. Still, there’s no way to confirm which arcs will be adapted until the studio releases a teaser.

Which Studio Is Making The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3?

It’s been confirmed that the previous studio, Kinema Citrus, will animate The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3. They’re also known for animating other anime, such as Made in Abyss, Black Bullet, and Barakamon. Although they’re officially returning for Season 3, fans question if they’re still the right ones for the job.

During Season 2’s run back in spring 2022, people criticized Kinema Citrus’ use of CGI animation. Fans called out its poor quality, which led to it becoming a meme at some point. Moreover, as mentioned earlier, fans criticized Season 2’s messy pacing alongside its plot, which didn’t live up to the first season. Despite this, fans hope that Kinema Citrus redeems itself in Season 3.

Where Will The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 Be Aired?

The Rising of the Shield Hero: Season 3 will most likely be available on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Funimation, and Hulu, depending on your region. Crunchyroll is the most likely destination for most people. If you’re from Japan, you might also be able to watch it on AT-X and other channels, just like Seasons 1 and 2.
