The Night Agent: Season 2 – What You Should Know

The Night Agent
The Night Agent

The Night Agent is an action thriller series based on Matthew Quirk’s novels of the same name. It stars Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland, an FBI agent turned secret service telephone operator. Spy thrillers have been flooding in for years now, but despite the competition, The Night Agent thrived. In fact, it became one of Netflix’s most-viewed shows during its first few opening weeks. Due to its success, The Night Agent: Season 2 has been confirmed.

After saving the country from a conspiracy that went all the way up to the Vice President, what else is in store for Peter? Here’s what you should know about The Night Agent: Season 2.

When Is The Night Agent: Season 2 Being Released?

The good news is that Netflix has already renewed the series in March 2023, so you can be sure it’s coming. Unfortunately, The Night Agent: Season 2 has not yet received an official release date.

In the renewal announcement, Sony Pictures Television also revealed the second season’s episode count. The Night Agent: Season 2 will have 10 episodes, just like the first season.

They probably couldn’t make a proper release date yet because of the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes currently in progress. The series creator and executive producer Shawn Ryan even has multiple Tweets of him participating in the strikes. If the executive producer is out, all production on The Night Agent: Season 2 has likely been postponed.

Will The Cast Return For The Night Agent: Season 2?

You’d expect most, if not all of the cast members to return after a successful debut. However, that might not be the case with The Night Agent: Season 2. In an interview with Deadline, Shawn Ryan reveals “…future seasons would include a few but not most of the characters that we saw in the previous season.”

The reasoning behind this decision is that they wanted each season of The Night Agent to tell self-contained stories. So, the only real guarantee is that Gabriel Basso will reprise his role as Peter Sutherland. The Night Agent: Season 2 will still revolve around him, but now with a lot of new faces.

What Could The Night Agent: Season 2 Be About?

The ending of Season 1 was bittersweet for Peter Sutherland. On one side, he managed to save President Michelle Travers. Then he got Vice President Redfield and White House Chief of Staff Farr arrested for their crimes.

However, after putting a stop to the conspiracy, he finds out that his father was assassinated during his mission to be a double agent. Also, one of the conspirators, Gordon Wick, managed to avoid capture. He’s still out there. Plotting.

Now that Peter is officially a Night Agent, he’s being sent to his first mission. The Season 1 finale featured Peter boarding a plane and leaving. This means that Season 2 will likely take place someplace else, with a whole new mystery to solve. Where is he headed, and what is his mission? These remain mysteries for now.

There will probably be some returning characters and an overarching plot involving the history of Peter’s father. However, as Shawn Ryan mentioned above, most of the previous characters won’t be present. The focus of the plot will probably be on something new rather than following up on loose ends.
