The Culling 2 Officially Revealed, Dropping Tomorrow

The Culling 2

Developers Xaviant Games have announced a follow-up to 2016 battle royale game The Culling; the imaginatively titled The Culling 2, which will be launching tomorrow on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Culling 2 looks to build on the first game, improving both the melee combat and ranged weapon ballistics. Matches will also contain up to fifty contestants instead of the sixteen player matches of the first game. The video below also promises “perks to customise your play style”, though how that’ll translate in game is unclear. At least we won’t have to wait long to find out.

What’s interesting to note about the trailer is that despite The Culling being one of the first games in the burgeoning battle royale genre, the reception to the trailer has been overwhelmingly negative. The ratio of likes to dislikes is all you need to know, but in fairness, the trailer doesn’t do the game any favours.

Ignoring the graphics, which aren’t great if we’re being honest, the trailer chooses to focus on gunplay inside of a countryside town, making it look eerily similar to both PUBG and H1Z1. There’s like one quick shot of someone holding a melee weapon, and the usually vitriolic YouTube comments have quite rightly pointed that out.

Again, we won’t have to wait long to find out whether or not The Culling 2 is any good, but this trailer hasn’t done the game any favours. Despite the voiceover hyping up the game show aspect of The Culling 2, the gameplay footage looks like an attempt to cash-in on the popularity of PUBG and H1Z1 instead of developing the ideas of the first game. In any case, we doubt it’ll do anything to halt the growing momentum of Fortnite.
