Lionsgate just released the official trailer for The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA twigs. This version is a modern reimagining of the original graphic novel by James O’Barr. The problem is, it doesn’t look good, probably because it basically shows how the entire movie will play out in this one movie trailer.
In the trailer, we see Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) get brutally murdered due to events related to Shelly’s past. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.
The original became a cult classic due to Brandon Lee’s fantastic performance (the actor died due to an injury sustained on the set of The Crow), as well as the gothic vibe that drenches the entire film. This version looks more like a generic action film, and Eric’s appearance is reminiscent of the Joker from Suicide Squad. The main themes of the story, that of loss and love, are still largely prevalent in this version, so hopefully it will deliver something decent despite my skepticism.
Currently, The Crow is slated to be released on June 7, 2024. However, this may change since the trailer doesn’t officially state the release date. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
